Grandma’s Trunk – Part 4

Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 as a day to honor one’s mother. Mother’s Day became an official national holiday in 1914. In the United States, Mother’s Day remains one of the biggest days for flowers, greeting cards, and also the biggest holiday for long-distance telephone calls.

Grandma had two sons. Frank was born in 1914 and John in 1919. John was my Grandfather. Grandma loved her sons very much. They sometimes took vacations together and she mentioned them many times in her journals. In her trunk from her boys were Western Union Telegrams, cards, pressed flowers, and a pin with Mother scrolled in metal wire.

Below are restored photos of the two boys and a 1919 postcard sent to Grandma on the birth of my Grandfather John.
